On Jan. 1, 1941, the Twin City Hospital went into operation at 1717 Midland Boulevard. Built by the as a New Deal project by the Works Progress Administration, the hospital provided health care to black citizens of Fort Smith. It was expanded in 1957. In 1964, the hospital's license expired and it was converted into a nursing home.
